ADM CEO Juan Luciano Talks to Fortune about Future of Food
2020 has presented a myriad of challenges for businesses worldwide, and ADM is no exception. ADM CEO Juan Luciano talked with Fortune senior editor Beth Kowitt at the 2020 Fortune Global Forum about how the pandemic has impacted the global food supply chain, and also the trends that will be driving the food industry going forward.
"Most people take for granted that food will show up," Luciano said. "We can't, and we have that responsibility. We have been doing that for 118 years…That's what our company does: It adjusts constantly."
In addition to discussing how the supply chain is continuing to evolve in these unprecedented times, Luciano talked about how consumers are reacting as well. Consumers now have a greater focus on health and wellness, and how nutrition makes them feel, he said. He also discussed the growing importance of sustainability for businesses and consumers and also how innovation is driving new developments in food and agriculture.
"Plant-based proteins have become mainstream, even beyond the burger…it's more about lifestyle and overall health and wellness. That's bringing on a new era of transformation in food and beverage," he said.
