ADM Receives Canadian Registration for Flax Lignan Ingredient
2008-03-19
Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) announced today that Health Canada’s Natural Health Products Directorate has accepted ADM’s Natural Health Products Master File for BeneFlax™ Flax Lignan Concentrate. The Master File provides safety information and other key data to enable Canadian customers to achieve approval for their formulated consumer products incorporating this ingredient. A specific reference number has been issued for the BeneFlax product.
“Canadians have long embraced flax for its many health benefits,” said Janice Binger, president, ADM Natural Health and Nutrition. “We’re pleased that dietary supplement manufacturers will now have the opportunity to offer BeneFlax ingredients to Canadian consumers.”
Through the Natural Health Products Directorate, Health Canada ensures that Canadian consumers have access to natural health products that are safe, effective and of high quality. Manufacturers can call ADM at 217-451-3351 to obtain the Directorate reference number for BeneFlax Flax Lignan Concentrate.
Flax is the richest source of lignans, which are natural compounds found in plants and high-fiber foods such as wheat, barley, soybeans and broccoli. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) is the main lignan found in flax.
BeneFlax Flax Lignan Concentrate is produced through a proprietary extraction and purification method developed using the technology of the Flax Consortium, a partnership of Canadian government and university researchers. The technology is under exclusive license to ADM. The process allows ADM to produce the highest concentration of flax lignan complex, as found in whole flaxseed.
