How ADM Cares Is Partnering With World Vision Romania Foundation To Accelerate The Efficiency of Agricultural Education In Romania

For the second year, ADM Cares, ADM's corporate social investment program, has partnered with World Vision Romania Foundation to accelerate efficiency in Romanian agricultural education. The latest project equipped the "Petre Baniță" Technological High School in Călăraşi, Dolj County with a new greenhouse to provide a dedicated space for the practical courses of the 82 students in agricultural classes.

Earlier in May, a group of 25 ADM employees volunteered to help prepare the greenhouse and solariums and together with the high school's students started planting. The ADM volunteers also met with teachers and students from the agriculture classes to discuss career opportunities that young agricultural education graduates can access in the agribusiness field.

"ADM consistently focuses on support of sustainable agricultural education in the communities where we operate and contribute to development of the future agribusiness professionals. We are glad that the project not only helped improve the technical base of the 'Petre Baniță' Technological High School, but also created a platform where ADM colleagues could directly engage with students and faculty staff to discuss challenges and opportunities in Romanian agriculture and trade," said Anton Povkhan, General Manager of ADM Romania.

Professor Florin Iulian Onete, Director of the "Petre Baniță" Technological High School said: "The new greenhouse strengthens the material base of our high school, and the students in the agricultural classes will benefit from the appropriate space to put in practice their theoretical knowledge. It is important to provide future agricultural professionals with the most effective educational process, and we are confident that this successful project through the collaboration with World Vison Romania and ADM will be a guarantee in this regard."

"It is important to prepare young people in high schools for Agriculture 4.0, familiarizing them with new technologies. The greenhouse will help students to better understand the processes that take place in the soil with the plants and how the use of technology and best practices leads to profitable and healthy harvests," said Crenguța Bărbosu, Senior Program Manager at the World Vision Romania Foundation.

In 2023, ADM supported a project that included equipping four agricultural high schools in Brăila, Călăraşi, Constanța and Fundulea, four interactive online training course and visits of students and teachers from the four high schools to local farms. The new greenhouse will serve the practical courses of the 82 students in the high school's agricultural classes and will be a dedicated space for the students' practical projects to encourage performance.
