Fibersol® Named Best Functional Ingredient of the Decade at the 2024 Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards

ADM/Matsutani LLC's Fibersol®A prebiotic* dietary fiberB has been named the Best Functional Ingredient of the Decade by Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards. This year marked the 10th year anniversary of the awards, prompting a focus on celebrating innovative solutions and technologies that have paved the way for new product development over the past 10 years.

The 2024 Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards focused on identifying the companies that have held steadfast in the pursuit of providing advanced solutions for the food industry, including within the health and wellness and functional food arena.

ADM Fibersol Excellence Award

"Receiving this award for Fibersol® is a tremendous honor that reinforces the science and versatility behind this powerhouse solution," said Paula Limena, Vice President, Global Marketing, Health & Wellness, ADM. "As a cutting-edge prebiotic dietary fiber, Fibersol® has been instrumental in revolutionizing the development of functional foods, beverages and dietary supplements. Its unmatched solubility is a critical feature that formulators worldwide appreciate, allowing for seamless integration across a variety of products. Paired with its extensive health benefits, Fibersol® truly stands out from the competition, empowering consumers in their wellness journeys and setting a new standard for fiber ingredients globally."

With over 30 years of research, Fibersol® has clinically documented evidence spanning several areas of support. The clinical studies show that Fibersol®:

•    Promotes the growth of microbes in the gut that are positively associated with health, at 3.75-6.25 grams per serving for a total of 15-25 grams per day over 3 weeks1,2.
•    May help nourish the intestinal flora and support the intestinal tract environment, at 3.75 grams per serving for a total of 15 grams per day over 3 weeks3.
•    May increase appetite regulating hormone GLP-1 as part of a normal physiological response in healthy individuals when consumed at 10 grams with a meal4.
•    Helps reduce blood sugar levels and blood insulin response after a meal that are within the normal range in healthy individuals, at 4-6 grams with each meal5,6.
•    Helps attenuate the rise in blood triglycerides following a meal that are within the normal range in healthy individuals and helps retain healthy triglyceride levels, at 5-6 grams with each meal7.

"Fibersol® is a particularly versatile solution that continues to support evolving needs, such as with the current surge in consumers engaging with GLP-1 receptor agonists and the focus on satiety benefits for weight management," said Limena. "Plus, it builds back integrity through structural and binding qualities that can be lost when reducing sugar, supporting highly sought-after reduced-sugar and low-calorie offerings, on top of delivering added fiber and wellness benefits."

Fibersol® can also help reach fiber fortification targets with minimal gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort. This is due to Fibersol® being well-tolerated up to a total of 68 grams per day8. It also ferments more slowly in the large intestine9, causing less gastric discomfort compared to dietary fibers that ferment more rapidly. Monash University classifies Fibersol® as a low-FODMAP ingredient, which means it is suitable for individuals with digestive sensitivities.

This win comes off of ADM's recognition in last year's awards. Bifidobacterium longum CECT7347 (ES1C) probiotic* and postbiotic* was named the winner of the Best Ingredients Innovation Award at the 2023 Gulfood Manufacturing Industry Excellence Awards.

"We continually look to what's next, with global teams pushing forward ongoing research to support the future of food with solutions like Fibersol®, along with ingredients in our ever-expanding solutions pantry, including prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, botanical extracts, sweetening solutions and more," continued Limena.
