ADM’s support underscores the company’s commitment to a sustainable oils supply chain.Białystok, Poland, 8 January, 2015 –Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced today a donation to the Polish Society for Bird Protection, which works towards the conservation of bird species by focusing on the preservation of their habitats. The donation of PLN 53,000 will support biodiversity by encouraging the protection of nesting and food habitats for grassland birds in Poland’s agricultural areas. The donation follows ADM’s recent announcement of its joint business development plan with Unilever, which includes a commitment to building a sustainable supply chain.

“As ADM strives to encourage sustainable practices throughout the supply chain, we are proud to provide assistance to organizations like the Polish Society for Bird Protection to increase biodiversity and preserve areas of high ecological value in Poland, which is an important origination market for our oilseeds operations,” said Duane Holz, vice president of ADM’s European Oilseeds division. “Working closely with customers like Unilever on sustainability initiatives like this one allows us to come together as an industry to advance environmental responsibility throughout the value chain.”

ADM’s support will strengthen the Polish Society for Bird Protection’s efforts to protect rare birds in Poland in agricultural areas that are considered to be ecologically valuable due to their role as important nesting and feeding habitats for grassland birds such as great snipes, lapwings, black-tailed godwits, ruffs, redshanks and shovelers.

Added Holz, “Through our donation to the Polish Society for Bird Protection and our partnership with Unilever, we can leverage our integrated, end-to-end supply chain to encourage sustainable practices from the origination countries where we source our raw materials to the products that consumers enjoy daily.”
