ADM's Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7347 (HT-ES1) Postbiotic Achieves Health Innovation Award Win at 2024 Fi Europe Innovation Awards
ADM's dedication to championing health and wellness innovations through the gut microbiome connection has been recognized at this year's Fi Europe Innovation Awards, where heat-treated postbiotic* Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7347 (HT-ES1A) was named the Health Innovation category winner.
The Fi Europe Innovation Awards celebrates world-class innovators for breaking new ground in the food ingredients industry. According to the panel of jury members, ADM received this prestigious award because HT-ES1 postbiotic showed "clear health benefits for consumers in multiple food applications."
"We're thrilled to have the recently published clinical results of our HT-ES1 postbiotic celebrated by industry leaders," said Francisco Climent, Vice President, Sales & Business Development, EMEA & LATAM Health & Wellness, ADM. "This recognition puts a spotlight on the incredible opportunity health and wellness brands have to support consumers’ overall quality of life using this cutting-edge postbiotic."
"With the ability to retain functionality across various harsh formulation environments, postbiotics are paving the way for the next frontier of innovative food and beverage formulations in the health and wellness category," continued Climent. "HT-ES1 is leading the pack, backed by gold-standard clinical trials demonstrating support for gastrointestinal health."
Published in Gut Microbes this year, results from the randomized, double-blind placebo controlled human clinical trial on adults with IBS-D taking HT-ES1 postbiotic supplementation indicated clinically meaningful improvements in IBS-Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-SSS) scores, compared to placebo1. This demonstrates that HT-ES1 may support overall gut and digestive health, in addition to potential support for reduced bloating1.
Important secondary outcomes were also achieved1, including:
• An improvement in the quality of life (based on the IBS-QoL) score compared to placebo. The IBS-QoL survey also showed that body image was improved, and that dysphoria, interference with activity, health worry and food avoidance were reduced.
• An improvement of frequency of water stools compared to placebo.
• A significant reduction of mean APS-NRS score (which is related to abdominal discomfort) compared to placebo.
• A significant reduction in stress versus placebo, as measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Index (STAI).
"Through solutions like HT-ES1 postbiotic, we're committed to aiding brands in meeting consumers where they are on their wellness journeys," said Climent. "Since postbiotics can be incorporated into a range of food, beverage and dietary supplement formats while remaining efficacious, more health-forward offerings are hitting the marketplace, including delicious and convenient gummies, snack clusters, stick packs, sparkling waters and more. The future of food and health and wellness innovation is on our doorstep, and we look forward to helping usher in novel formats with science-backed support."
